Woven by hand on upright looms or peddle looms with techniques dating back to ancient carpet weaving. Similar to hand knotted weaving, except the intertwining of the warp and weft yarn results in flat dhurrie weaves that leave no pile. The weft yarns simply pass through the warp yarns. Designs tend to be simpler and more geometric in pattern due to the limitations of the looms. Color, however is limitless. Master weavers are able to create very unique structures and textures giving some flatweaves beautiful dimension.
