Dining Room: Select a rug that extends 24–30 inches beyond the table so chairs remain fully on the rug whether pushed in or pulled out for seating.
Living Room: At minimum, the front legs of sofas and chairs should rest on the rug; for a more cohesive look, place all seating legs on the rug.
Bedroom: Leave 2–3 feet of rug on each side of the bed to give you a soft, warm landing when you get up.
Hallway: Choose a runner that leaves equal floor exposure on both sides—typically 4–6 inches of visible flooring along the length of the space.
Entryway: Ideally, a rug should cover two-thirds of the entry space for balance. Remember to select a rug that fits comfortably under the door swing.
