This isn’t a room you have to live in all the time, and it’s not a room your guests will see, so, have fun, go a little crazy. Why not make it as beautiful as any other room in the house?

Patterned tiles offer a big style statement with minimal maintenance — you just never have to worry about it. The floor tiles are porcelain, an absolute workhorse material, so you can clean up after dogs, spill bleach on it, they’re durable! The backsplash has a hand-painted tile that’s more expensive but still resilient, so you have the appeal of a hand-printed wallpaper but without any worry.

Blue is the client’s favorite color and this one felt saturated and fun. But between the graphic tiles and the bright blue, the room could be too “pretty,” too theme-y, so we chose dark bronze for the hardware, including the faucet and cabinet pulls. The edginess of dark bronze is the balance.

As well as two pendants over the island, also like a kitchen. The island makes sense for when you pull clothes from the dryer, you can just fold them there, and there’s storage right underneath.

I love color and I think rooms that are gray are starting to look dated — that’s what happens when you see the same thing everywhere for years. Personally, I love the warmth and excitement that color gives. Blue is one way to get it but recently I’ve also been pretty obsessed with warm coppery tones, that’s what’s been on my mind lately!

White is the hardest to choose! When someone says they want a “creamy white,” that means something different to each of us. I find that Benjamin Moore Calm isn’t too gray and not too orangey-yellow.
