This is Farrow & Ball Shaded White and it complements everything — it’s the perfect dirty cream or putty. It warms up black, it works well with brass. It’s so many places in this house (my own) and also all over my office. It’s so easy that it feels like you’re in a white space but it’s so far from white — it’s wild.

Painted tongue-in-groove paneled wood walls don’t get easily dinged, and this floor is ancient — from an old chateau in Europe and hundreds of years old already. There’s nothing we can do to make them look worse—only better. We installed it in a checkerboard to feel a bit more fresh than a solid.
Oh, it’s soft, it scratches and marks — it’s not the most practical, and I love it! I chose all these surfaces for their ability to age. I don’t care when it shows a bit of life — the floor or the counter. Let it do its thing. There are stairs in Italy that have been there for two centuries and it’s all just beautiful.
It is mostly stacks of drawers with batteries, screwdrivers, flashlights, bike things, and even a medicine cabinet — it’s the household organization hub.
The furniture-style toe-kick means there’s no crevices for dust or dirt, so it’s really easy to clean. And there’s latched hardware, it’s a small touch but it speaks to an old-fashioned charm.
